Hi,
Here you can see the PowerPoint presentation we made Luana and me in ICT class...

History of British Newspapers: The Sun
By: Roger and Luana

Newspaper Treasure Hunt!

In United Kingdom we can find two types of newspapers:
  • -Tabloids, that they publish news about sensationalist journalism.
  • -Broadsheets, that they publish news about serious journalism.

The difference between them is the size, Broadsheets (600 mm by 380 mm) are bigger than Tabloids (half the size of broadsheets at 380 mm by 300 mm).

Yellow journalism is a type of journalism that downplays legitimate news in favour of eye-catching headlines that sell more newspapers.

The Guardian is a British daily newspaper owned by the Guardian Media Group. It is published Monday to Saturday in the Berliner format. It was founded in Manchester in 1821 by John Edward Taylor. If we want to buy it costs 90 pence (in GBP) from Monday to Friday and on Saturday, it is £1.70.

The Sun is a tabloid newspaper published in United Kingdom and Ireland. His first published was on 15th September 1964. The name of this newspaper means, ‘The Sun’: Student University News. His news published are about daily life news and yellow journalism that makes a little bit strange his headlines but also different from the others. The Sun is so controversial because is a tabloid and is different from the others, so inside it you can fins ‘absurd’ things, nute girls, and news that you wouldn’t imagine that exist but, they really exist.

Saint George Day in Catalonia!

Next 23rd of April we are celebrating Saint George’s day in Catalonia as well as in other countries. Here, in Catalonia, it is our particular “Valentine’s Day”. Do you want to know more about him, his history and how we celebrate it? So, continue reading!

Saint George was a Roman militar and a Christian martyr who was born between 275 and 281 and died on April 23rd 303.
He is the Patron saint of Aragon, Catalonia, England, Ethiopia, Georgia, Greece, Lithuania, Palestine, Portugal and Russia.
The typical things people do in Catalonia is that boys give a rose to the girls they love, and girls give a book to boys in return.
The legend explians that:

Some time ago, on 23rd of April of 303, Saint George beat a dragon to save a young girl, the king’s daughter. When the dragon was defeated, its blood became red roses, and Saint George took one for the princes.

Exchange Salvador Espriu-De Nassau

The 25th of March 23 dutch students come to Barcelona to do an exchange with our class. Because we were more people, some of us share 1 dutch student.
They arrive to Girona at 11.15h and they take a bus that leave them near the school.
In the days that they stay here we visit Montserrat, Park Güell, Glòries and Diagonal Mar but they visit also(without us) the golden square and the constructions of Gaudí in Passeig de Gràcia( la pedrera and casa batlló), they also visit the cathedral and Sagrada Familia.
They like a lot going shopping and they buy lots of things. We also go to bowling in Diagonal mar and to the beach in Port Olímpic.
They leave Barcelona the 1st of April, we met in the school at 7h and the leave with a bus to the airport of Girona.

A NewsItem about the exchange!

Hi!

Today I’ll write a NewsItem with Luana’s help:

A few weeks ago a class of the school “De Nassau” from Holland, came to Barcelona to do an exchange with us (student’s of 3r ESO). Most of them were one year older than us. Our teachers made an special timetable for the activites we had to do with them. There were a lot of activites like for example going to Montserrat, Park Güell…We also went to Glòries (almost every day), Diagonal Mar (at the weekend), Bowling (inside Diagonal Mar)…Of course, girls went shopping whenever they could. It was a good expierence, but this was just the beginning of the exchange…now we have to go to Breda (in Holland) to visit a lot of places and of course to practise and learn more English.

Latest news!

Television kills

Yesterday, Prof. Manfred Spitzer said in a press conference that TV makes children excessively violent and it can also increase the percentage of deaths by obesity and heart disease Twenty thousand german people have died as a consequence, this year.
Also, Manfred says in his book called "Beware of the TV screen" that children who watch TV excessively receive more mental damage and this affects their mental capacities and can create depression, increased violence and make children more distracted in class.

When we asked him about how TV can cause heart attacks in young people and make them obese, Manfred told us that when you’re a child and you see food advertisments on TV, when you are an adult, you will remember them and you’ll buy the food you saw when you were young.
